Barcode Reader Source Code Available Soon
July 17th, 2007 [ Posted by admin ]After receiving several interested comments related to the source of the barcode reader I created for the developer comp. last year, I had a chat with the powers that be here and we decided that the best option for all folks involved would be to opensource the code.
I have to tidy up the code to make it presentable and compatible with Flex 2.01 but expect another announcement in the near future.
*** Updated ****
Mike no longer works at webqem, and unfortunately there will be no further news on the barcode reader.

Thanks for doing this.. can’t wait to play with the new component. BTW, do you plan on releasing the original flash component that you started with?

Has there been any updates on releasing this code? I noticed the blog hasn’t been updated in a while, I was really looking forward to seeing this released. If there’s a way to get the code directly, or discuss projects involving it, I’d be happy to talk to you directly.

Hi Guys,
Firstly sorry for the delay in responding but we had a demo to get ready for the Adobe AIR launch here in Oz and I was flat out for a couple of weeks (there’ll be a post regarding what we did shortly). You’ll be pleased to know that I am now working on getting the code tidied up and will have it released in some form ASAP. Sorry this has taken so long, but fortunately for us we’ve been really busy.

does the scanner work on fixed focus webcams like the ones in macbooks?

Peter,
It depends on the quality and size of the image produced. Generally I would say no but if you are using larger than standard barcodes of course that will make it more likely.

Hey Mike any progress with this? I was looking into doing something similar with QR Codes, so if it is opensource maybe I can slot an extra barcode type in.
Cheers.

Hi,
This is great. Are you going to release the code? It’s been a while since you said you were going to release it.
Do you need a hand with the code or anything?
