After months of hard work and much collaboration between YHA and the team at webqem, we’re very happy to announce that the redesigned YHA site is now live! The YHA site redesign was a large project, considering the site has over 2,500 pages. We worked extensively with YHA to better align the website look and feel to YHA’s brand, and to provide better visual weighting to all site elements, to improve user interaction and navigation.

There were also a number of technical objectives in the YHA site redesign:

• Utilise CSS layouts as much as possible throughout the site

• Implement the Mura Open Source CMS, to give YHA greater flexibility and control over content editing

• Increase page speed across the site, by utilising site speed optimisation best practice (CSS Sprites,

separate image domains, compression, content caching)

• Utilise latest HTML 5 techniques including dynamic font rendering

• Widen site pages from 800 pixels to 1024 pixels

The end result is a faster, technically and visually cleaner site that YHA have much greater flexibility in managing going forward.

The brand new St Luke’s Care site is now live! St Luke’s Care is an independent, not-for-profit, charitable organisation that has delivered excellence in health and aged care for 90 years. Our main challenge in redesigning the new site was presenting the four key business areas: Hospital, Home Care, Aged Care and Apartments, equally, whilst still clearly positioning the St Luke’s Care brand as relevant to all four.

The project included requirements definition, wireframing, copywriting, organic SEO, and design and build. There is an emphasis on clean and clear navigation throughout the various page levels on the site, along with testimonials and links to virtual tours, in context. Rich landscape imagery and Flash galleries on specific pages have been used to give life to the pages and to work in concert with the copy to clearly present relevant information to the end user.

Not only have they welcomed a new airline – Mexicana – but they have restructured their whole website and launched their brand new mobile site.

The integration of Mexicana and the restructure to the site began way back in Feb 2009. After 10 months, oneworld, webqem and a plethora of other agencies involved in translations, tools and design launched the site on Nov 10th to resounding success. At the same time, the newly designed and built mobile site was launched as well.

A big thank you to all of the teams involved in such an epic project.

Well not anymore, as Adobe has unveiled its plans to release a new flash based application for mobile devices. In a recent post on the webqem blog, it was revealed that this kind of application would not be far away as the new Flash CS5 will enables developers to export their applications from Flash to the iPhone – but we didn’t expect it to be this close!

It not just the iPhone that will be benefit from this: Google Android, Palm WebOS, Microsoft Windows Mobile, Nokia’s Symbian OS, and RIM with their Blackberry OS, will also be able to run a connect meeting from their phones.

Good news from the Adobe MAX conference – Adobe is now closer than ever to running Flash on the Apple iPhone. At Adobe MAX, the company’s worldwide developer conference, Adobe announced that the new Flash Professional CS5 software will enable developers the ability to create applications for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The new functionality opens iPhone development to millions of designers and developers who currently use Adobe’s popular Flash authoring tools. Adobe already has some examples of Flash applications available on the Adobe Labs site.

Flash is an integral part of many webqem projects, so we are very excited to hear this news. However, we are still holding out to witness a Connect Meeting on our iPhones – we hear that Adobe is not far off, so let us wait in anticipation!
