Mensheds Australia redefined by Connect Pro

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 [ Posted by Nicholas B ]

mensheds

The power of Adobe Connect Pro has found its way into a unique not-for-profit organisation by the name of Mensheds Australia. Mensheds Australia specialise in the health and well-being of men through local organisations that act like a social groups aka a ‘Men’s shed’.

One of the biggest challenges faced by Mensheds Australia was reaching men throughout the country, in particular in remote areas. Furthermore, even where men’s sheds have been established, successfully managing and maintaining them was particularly hard to achieve from head office in Sydney as each men’s shed requires resources, training, and detailed information 24/7.

So, thanks to the team at webqem, Mensheds Australia has implemented a very successful solution – Adobe Connect Pro. From an administrative perspective, Connect Pro has drastically reduced the cost of delivery, travel, training, and Occupational Health & Safety compliance. Explains managing director Peter Sergeant, “When you consider the thousands of documents and information packages used by Mensheds Australia to communicate and collaborate with individual men’s sheds and our partners everywhere, Acrobat Connect Pro is worth approximately $5 million to our organisation.”

Now Mensheds can conduct online meetings to remote areas via Connect Meetings. They can provide access to an plethora of information via the Connect Pro Training module, and can easily create engaging mulitmedia presentations via Adobe Presenter.

The feedback from supporters and stakeholders on the organisation’s portal, www.mensheds.com.au has been outstanding and exceeded all expectations. “Simply put, without Acrobat Connect Professional, we would not have been able to continue with our work at Mensheds,” concludes Sergeant. “We couldn’t deliver the volume of information needed anywhere near as efficiently and compellingly without the Adobe software.”

Magazine praise

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 [ Posted by Chris R ]

We build great websites. Even in our spare time.

Dog’s Life magazine in Australia reviewed several online dog community sites in the January/February issue, and gave a glowing review of one particular site.

“… mydogspace.com.au is definitely one of the best dog sites we’ve seen online …” said the article.

MyDogSpace was created at home by webqem employee Chris Raynor, with the first two members her dogs Spike and Harry, and now has over 800 dog members. Based on a PHP community site software package with several extra modifications and customisations, it offers free dog blogs, picture uploads, forum, polls, quizzes, groups, classifieds, articles and games. Video and music are available for upgraded members.

Coogee LocalVocal community site

Monday, November 12th, 2007 [ Posted by Chris R ]

During September the inaugural Local Vocal site was launched for the Coogee community at Coogee LocalVocal.

A low-key launch was chosen whilst the site was populated with useful local information such as local parks and coastal walks, upcoming festivals, performances, workshops and seminars, and a selection of local businesses and services.

The Coogee Local Vocal site gives locals a cohesive voice about local issues through the use of online forums, blogs and polls. Members can share photos, and blogs and advertise in the Classifieds section; Groups can coordinate member lists and activities; Local Businesses can list their business, providing full contact details and map location. Share ideas and communicate with others in your local area.

The Coogee site is the first of many Local Vocal community sites. If you are interested in starting your own local franchise, please see the parent site, Local Vocal Australia.

iPrime Canberra launches!

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007 [ Posted by Lachy G ]

We have been working with iPrime (the digital arm of regional network Prime Television) over the past year to produce the “world’s first” town-specific, video-based social networking site. canberra.iprime.com.au is based on the premise of “Right here, right now” and provides local users with a one stop shop for all content relevant to Canberra.

iPrime were keen to move away from the traditional portal approach and as such we recommended using the latest technologies including Adobe Flex and Adobe Flash. This allowed us to build a rich, engaging site that users can navigate through seamlessly.
